Ingredients -
- Urad Dal - washed and soaked overnight - 1 cup
- Chana Dal - washed and soaked overnight - 1/3 cup
- Onion - finely chopped - 2
- Tomato - finely chopped - 1
- Hing powder - 1/2 Tsp
- Turmeric powder - 1 Tsp
- Red Chili powder - 1 Tsp
- Coriander powder - 1 Tsp
- Bay leaf - 1
- Cinnamon stick - 1/2 inch
- Black Cardamom - 1
- Cumin seeds - 1 Tsp
- Ginger - Garlic paste - 1 TBSP
- Vegetable oil - 1 TBSP
- Water - 3 cups
- Salt to taste
Method -
- In a pressure cooker, add soaked urad dal , chana dal , hing powder , turmeric powder , red chili powder , baf leaf , cinnamon stick , black cardamom , water . Close the lid and cook for 3 whistles.
- Heat a pot over medium heat , once hot add vegetable oil , cumin seeds , hing powder , Ginger - Garlic paste and saute for a minute or two. Add onions and saute till they turn translucent.
- Add turmeric powder , red chili powder , coriander powder and mix well. Add chopped tomatoes and salt to taste . Mix well. Add 1/3 cup water and mix well.Cover and cook for 5- 7 minutes.
- Add cooked dal and mix well. Cook for another 2-3 minutes.
- Serve hot with roti and rice.
