Ingredients For Tomato Upma Recipe

  1. Suji / Rava fine – 1 cup
  2. Onion finely chopped – 1
  3. Tomato finely chopped – 2
  4. Vegetable oil – 2 TBSP
  5. Mustard seeds – 1 Tsp
  6. Cumin seeds – 1 Tsp
  7. Hing / Asafoetida powder – ¼ TSP
  8. Urad Dal – 1 Tsp
  9. Green chilies – finely chopped – 3-4
  10. Curry leaves – 7-8
  11. Sugar – 1 Tsp
  12. Water – 2 cups.
  13. Salt to taste.

How To Make Tomato Upma : Step By Step Instructions

  1. In a pan, heat 1 TBSP of oil over medium heat. Add suji/rava and roast it until it releases aroma and turns a nice golden color.
  2. In another pan, heat 1 TBSP of oil. Once hot, add mustard seeds and let them splutter.
  3. Add cumin seeds and hing powder. Also, add Urad dal and sauté until it becomes golden brown. Add green chillies and sauté for 30 seconds.
  4. Add curry leaves and mix well.
  5. Add finely chopped onion and sauté until it turns translucent.
  6. Add finely chopped tomatoes and sauté until they become mushy.
  7. Season with salt to taste and sugar. Mix well.
  8. Add the roasted rava and mix thoroughly.
  9. Pour hot boiling water and mix well, ensuring there are no lumps.
  10. Cover and cook over low to medium heat for 5-7 minutes.
  11. Garnish with finely chopped cilantro and serve hot.
