Ingredients For Gajar Matar Daliya

  1. Daliya / Cracked wheat - 1 cup
  2. Green peas , carrot cut in small cubes - 1/2 cup
  3. haldi / turmeric powder - 1 Tsp
  4. Red Chilli powder - 1/2 Tsp - Optional
  5. Biryani masala or garam masala - 2 Tsp
  6. Hing / Asafoetida - 1/2 Tsp
  7. Mohri / Black Mustard Seeds - 1 TSP
  8. Jerra / Cumin seeds - 1 Tsp
  9. finely chopped onion - 1/2 cup
  10. finely chopped tomatoes - 1
  11. Oil - 1 TBSP
  12. Water - 2 cups
  13. Salt to taste

Method For Preparing Gajar Matar Daliya

  1. Roast Daliya on 1/2 TSP oil on medium flame till the daliya changes colour to golden brown and starts releasing aroma.
  2. Heat Pan , Add oil. After oil is hot add mustard seeds , once they clutter , add cumin seeds and hing.
  3. Add diced onion. Saute them till they turn translucent.
  4. Add tomatoes and saute them till they are nice and mushy.
  5. Add cut carrots and green peas and give them a nice stir.
  6. Add the turmeric powder , red chilli powder , biryani masala or garam masala. You can skip the red chilli powder , just the biryani or garam masala gives it nice flavor.
  7. Add roasted daliya and mix well.
  8. Add Water and mix it well.
  9. Let the daliya cook on medium to low flame for 15-20 minutes. Alternatively you can use the pressure cooker and cook it for 2 whistles.
