Ingredients For Lentil Millet Rice
- Whole Masoor / Lentil – sprouted - ½ cup
- Barnyard millet - ½ cup
- haldi/turmeric powder – 1 Tsp
- Red Chilli powder – 1 Tsp
- Ginger-garlic paste - 1 TBSP
- Biryani masala or garam masala – 2 Tsp
- Cinnamon - ½ inch
- Bay leaves - 2
- Black Cardamom - 1
- Green Cardamom - 3-4
- Star Anise - 1
- finely chopped onion – 1 cup
- finely chopped tomatoes – 1
- Oil – 1 TBSP
- Water – 2 cups
- Salt to taste
How To Make Lentil Millet Rice Recipe
- Heat a kadai or handi on medium heat. Add oil and whole spices - cinnamon stick, bay leaves, black cardamom, green cardamom, star anise. Sauté for a minute.
- Add onion, sauté till translucent. Add ginger-garlic paste, sauté for 2-3 minutes. Add tomatoes and salt. Sauté till tomatoes turn mushy.
- Add dry masala powders - turmeric powder, red chili powder, garam masala powder. Mix well.
- Add sprouted masoor and mix with the masala. Add washed millets, sauté for a minute or 2.
- Add water, adjust salt if needed. Cover and cook on low flame for 8-10 minutes.
- Garnish with finely chopped cilantro. Serve hot with your choice of papad and pickle.
