Ingredients For Lentil Millet Rice

 

  • Whole Masoor / Lentil – sprouted - ½ cup 
  • Barnyard millet -  ½ cup
  • haldi/turmeric powder – 1 Tsp
  • Red Chilli powder – 1 Tsp 
  • Ginger-garlic paste - 1 TBSP
  • Biryani masala or garam masala – 2 Tsp
  • Cinnamon - ½ inch
  • Bay leaves - 2
  • Black Cardamom - 1
  • Green Cardamom - 3-4
  • Star Anise - 1
  • finely chopped onion – 1 cup
  • finely chopped tomatoes – 1
  • Oil – 1 TBSP
  • Water – 2 cups
  • Salt to taste

 

How To Make Lentil Millet Rice Recipe

 

  • Heat a kadai or handi on medium heat. Add oil and whole spices - cinnamon stick, bay leaves, black cardamom, green cardamom, star anise. Sauté for a minute.
  • Add onion, sauté till translucent. Add ginger-garlic paste, sauté for 2-3 minutes. Add tomatoes and salt. Sauté till tomatoes turn mushy.
  • Add dry masala powders - turmeric powder, red chili powder, garam masala powder. Mix well.
  • Add sprouted masoor and mix with the masala. Add washed millets, sauté for a minute or 2.
  • Add water, adjust salt if needed. Cover and cook on low flame for 8-10 minutes.
  • Garnish with finely chopped cilantro. Serve hot with your choice of papad and pickle.
