For Dal -
- Tuvar Dal / Split pigeon pea - 1 cup
- Hing / Asafoetida - 1/2 Tsp
- Turmeric powder - 1 Tsp
- Mustard seeds - 1 TSP
- Cumin seeds - 1 Tsp
- Garlic cloves - 3-4
- Green Chilies - 2-3 - finely chopped
- Curry Leaves - 4-5
- Red chilli powder - 1 Tsp
- Raw mango - 2 TBSP
- Jaggery - 1 TBSP
- Vegetable oil - 1 Tbsp
- salt to taste
- water to adjust consistency.
Method
- Wash the dal thoroughly , add 1/4 tsp hing powder , turmeric powder , 2 cups water. Pressure cook for 3 whistles on medium flame.
- For Tampering heat a pan on medium heat. Add oil. Once hot add mustard seeds , cumin seeds , after they tamper add hing powder.
- Add the boiled dal and mix well. Add water to adjust consistency.
- Add the rest of masalas , raw mango, jaggery and salt to taste. Cover and cook for 8-10 minutes.
- Garnish with finely chopped cilantro and freshly grated coconut.
