For Dal -

  1. Tuvar Dal / Split pigeon pea - 1 cup
  2. Hing / Asafoetida - 1/2 Tsp
  3. Turmeric powder - 1 Tsp
  4. Mustard seeds - 1 TSP
  5. Cumin seeds - 1 Tsp
  6. Garlic cloves - 3-4
  7. Green Chilies - 2-3 - finely chopped
  8. Curry Leaves - 4-5
  9. Red chilli powder - 1 Tsp
  10. Raw mango - 2 TBSP
  11. Jaggery - 1 TBSP
  12. Vegetable oil - 1 Tbsp
  13. salt to taste
  14. water to adjust consistency.

Method

  1. Wash the dal thoroughly , add 1/4 tsp hing powder , turmeric powder , 2 cups water. Pressure cook for 3 whistles on medium flame.
  2. For Tampering heat a pan on medium heat. Add oil. Once hot add mustard seeds , cumin seeds , after they tamper add hing powder.
  3. Add the boiled dal and mix well. Add water to adjust consistency.
  4. Add the rest of masalas , raw mango, jaggery and salt to taste. Cover and cook for 8-10 minutes.
  5. Garnish with finely chopped cilantro and freshly grated coconut.
