Ingredients

Dal Ingredients

  • Tuvar Dal (Split pigeon pea) – ½ cup

  • Masoor Dal (Red lentils) – ¼ cup

  • Moong Dal (Yellow lentils) – ¼ cup

  • Hing (Asafoetida) – ½ Tsp

  • Turmeric powder – 1 Tsp

  • Tomato (finely chopped) – 1

  • Cumin seeds – 1 TSP

  • Whole red chili – 3-4

  • Curry leaves – 4-5

  • Jaggery – 1 Tsp

  • Vegetable oil – 1 Tbsp

  • Salt – to taste

  • Water – to adjust consistency

Rice Ingredients

  • Rice – 1 cup (washed)

  • Vegetable oil – 1 TBSP

  • Cumin seeds – 2 Tsp

  • Salt – to taste

  • Water – 2 cups

Aloo Katli (Spiced Potatoes) Ingredients

  • Potato (finely cubed) – 4-5

  • Onion (finely chopped) – 1

  • Vegetable oil – 1 TBSP

  • Cumin seeds (Jeera) – 1 Tsp

  • Hing powder – ¼ Tsp

  • Turmeric powder – 1 Tsp

  • Red chili powder – 1 Tsp

  • Salt – to taste

Method

How to Make Dal

  1. Wash the dal thoroughly. Add turmeric powder, hing powder, 1 Tsp oil, and 2 cups water along with chopped tomatoes.

  2. Pressure cook for 3 whistles on medium flame.

  3. Heat a pan on medium heat and add vegetable oil. Once hot, add cumin seeds, whole red chilies, and curry leaves.

  4. Pour the boiled dal into the pan and mix well.

  5. Adjust the consistency by adding water.

  6. Add salt and jaggery, bring to a boil, and garnish with finely chopped cilantro.
