Let’s begin with the question, what is gluten? Gluten is a protein found in wheat, semolina, and related products. Some children are allergic to gluten. They may encounter various allergic reactions like joint pain, numbness, itchy elbows, buttocks, knees, etc. Indians cannot imagine a day without wheat, of which gluten is part. So, what to do in situations like these? Here’s some help.

Bhakri Pizza

Does your child love pizza? Most of the parents would say yes. Pizzas are children’s favorite. But pizza isn’t as healthy as you may know, especially if your child is allergic to gluten, as pizza contains wheat flour or durum wheat.

If that’s the case, try out Bhakri Pizza. Bhakri is a traditional Maharashtrian bread eaten regularly with vegetables. It is made up of bajra or jowar. Keep Bhakri as the base and customize the pizza per your child’s needs. Children would love the tasty topping and crunchy Bhakri base underneath.

Peanut Laddu/ Ladoo

Peanut Ladoo or Laddu is another alternative for a gluten-allergic child. The recipe is pretty straightforward and quick. You can let your child have it anytime during the day or after the meals. The Laddu isn’t just tasty but healthy, as it combines the nutrition of peanuts, ghee, and cardamom.

Gajar Halwa

We’ve all loved Gajar Halwa as kids. So, why not pass on our likes to the new generation? A Gajar Halwa is a fantastic delicacy that provides the nutrition of a carrot while avoiding gluten. It is delicious and, at the same time, filling. Garnish it with some cashew nuts and almonds to make it richer and more nutritious.

Note: The above are generic recipes. For a specific gluten-free meal or recipe for your child, consult your doctor.

So, these were some pretty quick and easy gluten-free recipes for children allergic to gluten. If you have any more, which perhaps, you’ve tried and succeeded at, you might want to let us know about them.
